All they'll cause is a buch of arguing and drama.

I think Gamecat put it best last night. No we should not. This is the people's chosen forum, and it really doesn't break any Oppo rule. As much as you agree or disagree with that it is what it boils down to

No.
The arguing and everything is contained in those posts. It's fine the way it is. It'll only be a problem if people do this and try t drag it outside

We're not going to stop posts, but we will be monitoring comments. Rules still apply as normal.

I'm not one that will get bent out of shape, but I can't speak for others.

No. Oppo is off topic.

this would be a good time to be able to keep popular posts on the side bar. Now the Ferguson posts are getting buried a couple pages back and people aren't seeing it. They want to comment but the post is lost.

Gamecat made a perfect post explaining our position on such topics:
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/an-open-messag…
We stand by that. Oppositelock is not a suitable place to vent about personal problem or seek pseudo-therapeutic support. Nevertheless, it should be a place where we can - if necessary - discuss things in a rational manner.
However, as Gamecat and Party-vi point out - comments in these threads will be very, very closely monitored. Be courteous and respectful.
If you are worried about how others behave, then work to provide an example of what you deem to be positive behavior. In other words, as Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

So much trolling, so much clickbaiting, so many opposing and unchanging viewpoints. Worthless. Not banned, but ignored as far as I'm concerned.

No. Pretending doesn't make things not true. Eel with it.

It also serves to lessen the number of reminders they have of it in front of their face. The goal is to find constructive ways to move on, not to create posts directed at anything or anyone that simply say, "Fuck you."
I understand that there is anger, and righteous about that. I don't think it should be denied, but I'm quite fine with it not being encouraged.

Real discussion is fine, and welcomed. We hope that's the majority of what we'll see.
For the things that fall outside of reason and logic and civility, please do us a solid and flag it. We are also all up in this as mods, but the flag feature is there for the community to use to make Oppo a better place.
The mods have already had a few discussions about Ferguson posts, so believe me, we are watching this stuff closely.
